See a Penny, Pick It Up, All Day Long You'll Have Good Luck
What is all this about? A penny found on the ground is more than just a penny. It is a representative from the currency system, a unit in the economy of ideas and value. In a very real way, a penny found on the ground is the realm of ideas and thought reaching out to you. The reason it represents luck is that, well, you didn't really do anything directly to earn it, did you? You didn't specifically put an idea or thought into the economy in order to earn this penny. It reached out to you. Why face up? The penny, like any other currency, has a front and a back (ever notice that coins don't have two fronts?). This represents currency coming into your life and leaving it. Face up is an open door into the economy. It is the economy paying you. Why a penny? Because it is the smallest unit of measure in the economy. It is a token that speaks more of the possibility of opening the world of value to you rather than an actual attempt to value the luck you're receiving. How does it work? The penny embodies luck, a good wish from and an opportunity within the economy. You need to accept the penny to open the door to the luck that the realm of great ideas is offering you. Once you pick up the penny, do you have to keep it on your person? If so, for how long? Accepting the penny simply requires that you acknowledge it ("pick it up") and add it to your wealth. Adding it to your wealth means either 1) depositing it into your bank account, 2) converting it into another form of currency (either compiled with other currency in exchange for a larger unit of currency or exchanged to a unit of currency from a different monetary system), or 3) spending it directly. As long as you don't simply toss the penny back on the ground, you've pretty much taken advantage of the luck it offered you. |
